Dr. Stephen Sinatra says, "Grounding is literally putting your bare feet on the ground. When you do that, you're in contact with the Earth, and mother Earth is endowed with electrons, and these electrons are literally absorbed through your feet. It's like taking handfuls of antioxidants, but you're getting it through your feet."
So why do we need electrons in our body? When our bodies have built up free radicals over time there is only one way to quell them, and that is to give them electrons. There are many different ways to give the body electrons and that can be through Vitamins A, C and E, plant sterols, and polyphenols such as coffee, tea, and cocoa. However, we are not limited to just eating and drinking our electrons, but we can acquire electrons form the earth through the practice of Grounding.
Through the practice of Grounding you will be able to gain energy from the earth to increase health and wellbeing. Grounding balances the positive ions that our body over time builds up by exposing us to the negative ions which helps to bring us back to a neutral state. Acquiring a state of homeostasis is exactly what the body is trying to fight to achieve each day. That is why practicing Grounding first thing in the morning sets up our day for a happier and healthier you.
Studies have shown that a lack of Grounding, also referred to as “electron deficiency syndrome,” has been correlated to the rise of modern diseases. It is not uncommon for Americans to spend an entire day without being grounded. Think of the office worker in New York City who travels into the office on the train, sits all day in a chair and takes the home late to do be with the family and then bed. On the other side of the token there are some stay at home mothers who spend a majority of their day in the car driving to errands, rushing to appointments, and transporting their children to and from school, practice, friend’s house and back home. While Grounding is not a treatment or cure for diseases and disorders, it can be an important practice to provide an environment to help manage chronic pain and increase overall health markers.

Implement Grounding Daily
Different surfaces bring about different levels of conductivity. Beaches are a great conductor because of the saltwater as well as grassy areas with dew and bare soil. Surfaces to avoid due to lack of conductivity are wood, rubber, plastic and asphalt.
Go outside to these surfaces and be sure to make direct contact to them with the bare feet. Walk or stand for 10-15 minutes first thing in the morning. This will allow the energy of the earth to drive through your body as well expose you to natural light that will influence proper circadian rhythm.
